Dates are the Bank’s confirmed schedule, copied on 4 Oct 2026 from its page of Monetary Policy Committee dates for 2026 and 2027. Outcomes for past meetings come from the Bank Rate table on the Bank Rate history page, confirmed up to 4 Oct 2026.

Does the next decision change what you can claim?

Usually not, and that is the useful part. Under the Rate of Interest (No. 3) Order 2002, article 4, a late invoice uses Bank Rate on one of two reference dates, 30 June or 31 December, immediately before the day interest starts. Between those dates, a rate change alters nothing for debts that already have a rate.

The next reference date is 31 Dec 2026. It sets the rate for interest that starts between 1 Jan 2027 and 30 Jun 2027. The decisions still to come before it: 5 Nov 2026 and 17 Dec 2026. Whatever Bank Rate is on 31 Dec 2026 becomes the base for those invoices, plus 8%; today that would be 3.75% + 8% = 11.75%.

Invoices whose interest started before 1 Jan 2027 already have their rate, and none of the decisions above can change it.

Our table treats a change as taking effect on the day it is announced. See the worked examples for what a different reference rate does to the money.

Common questions

When is the next Bank of England interest rate decision?

Thursday 5 Nov 2026, announced at 12:00 noon UK time, together with a Monetary Policy Report.

Will a rate change on 5 Nov 2026 change the interest on my overdue invoice?

Only if interest on the invoice starts between 1 Jan 2027 and 30 Jun 2027: those debts use the Bank Rate in force on 31 Dec 2026, and the decision is before that date, so it can move the rate. Debts whose interest started earlier already have a fixed reference rate.

Do I need to recalculate when Bank Rate changes?

No. Once interest has started on a debt, its Bank Rate reference date is fixed, so later changes do not move it.
